Longleaf Pine Restoration Project, North Country August 2025
Forest Restoration and Pine Removal Project to begin Monday, August 18, 2025
Over the next four weeks contractors will be in the North Country of The Walthour-Moss Foundation working on a forest stewardship project. Work is scheduled to begin on the morning of Monday, August 18.
This project is a part of our current Forest Stewardship Plan and includes the removal of pre-selected and operator selected longleaf, loblolly, and slash pine trees from 120 acres of the Foundation located in the North Country (Magnolia Hill side) on areas between Aiken Road, Firestone Lake and the back side of the Pine Ridge neighborhood. Thinning these pines will allow light to reach the forest floor and will provide room for the remaining longleaf pine to grow.
We respectfully request that you avoid the shaded areas on the map during times when work is in progress. Please do not walk, ride or drive a carriage in the project area until the project is complete. Please be aware that while work is being completed, there will be increased truck traffic on the trails leading to and from those areas.
A map with the approximate areas shaded in red is below.
