We reached out to the N.C. Department of Environmental Quality on August 26 to inquire about our WMF ponds and lakes after a report of toxic blue-green algae being found at Reservoir Park in Southern Pines. At this time of the summer, it exists naturally in our environment, so the algae likely does exist in some of our waters. We will continue to monitor and will report if a bloom is seen and confirmed to be toxic blue-green algae. The cooler weather over the weekend and shorter days should help to keep algae at bay. However, please take precaution with your horses in and around the edges of our ponds, lakes, and streams.
